Detection of transgenic material

MDC offers a service for detection and quantification of transgenic material, letting you know within hours if transgenic organism is present in a food sample or has been used in a process. In these analyses we include a high number of reaction controls to rule out false positives and negatives.

Transgenic foods contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) or ingredients derived from them. If the quantity of GMO in food exceeds 0.9%, it must be labeled according to the European Union legislation.

Current legislation

• Qualitative screening of P35S-TNOS: the PCR is specific for the 35S-promoter and the NOS-terminator sequences, which are elements normally used in the building of GMO.
• Identification and Quantification of Soy events: includes the specific analysis of the RoundUp Ready (RR), after the screening P35S-TNOS.
• Identification and Quantification of corn events: includes the PCR specific Bt176, Bt11, Mon810, NK 603, T25, TC1507, CBH351, GA21, Mon 863, after the screening P35S-TNOS.
• Identification and Quantification of Soy and corn events

The minimum sample sizes required for GMO testing:

• Seeds, flours, lecithin, soya protein and animal feed: 150g
• Juices and soya drinks: 500ml
• Finished products: 1 packet
